Policies for the green and sustainable transformation of industry in Egypt
A new project supporting the Egyptian Government towards the green and sustainable transformation of industries has been launched. The initiative is carried out by GIZ Egypt, on behalf of the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), through the Private Sector Innovation II Project (PSI II), in partnership with the Ministry of Industry (MoI) and is implemented by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).
The project targets a wide range of relevant stakeholders via policy advice and capacity development activities to align efforts within a green economy framework, ultimately contributing to inclusive and sustainable industrial development in Egypt. To do so, the project leverages the GIZ “Private Sector Innovation II” project, which aims at improving the competitive situation of the Egyptian industry considering increasing market requirements for a green transformation of the economy.
The project includes capacity development activities through the deployment of EQUIP Tool 7 on “Industry and Environment” and a series of UNIDO Industrial Policy Lab (IPL) workshops. These activities are part of efforts to inform the formulation of two policy support measures for the greening of the Egyptian industry, as final project deliverables.
